Circus troupes first appeared in Dingwan village in the late Qing Dynasty (1644–1911). One hundred years later, circuses are more popular in the village. In 1979, a young man, surnamed Wu, built "Feiye Circus" with 3,000 yuan ($490) spent on costumes, props and horses to make shows in other places. At that time, the group earned over 10,000 yuan per year. Now this circus has more than 500 employees and a glider worth 100,000 yuan per show. Dingwan's annual income from the circuses has reached 1 million yuan, making it known as a famous well-off village.
