Kunshan city in Jiangsu province is the origin of Kunqu opera, the oldest form of opera in China. There are several places in Kunshan to enjoy a good performance.

Old stage in Qiandeng town

Qiandeng town in Kunshan is home to another old stage inside the memorial hall of Gu Jian, a poet, playwright and the bellwether of Kunqu opera art. Gu Jian was a Kunshan native who lived in the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368).
