Li Jiazhentong, a student from the Shandong University of Arts, was revealed on June 20 to be the person behind the mystery face in the Amazing China Face Race, a contest devised by Hastings, New Zealand Councillor Kevin Watkins.

The Amazing China Face Race started on June 7. The competition was open to New Zealand-resident students, years 9 to 13, attending a secondary school in Hastings, located in the Hawke's Bay region of the country.

Participants needed to identify one un-named face in China based on daily clues over two weeks. When all the clues and questions were correctly solved, the students could be lead to where and how the face could be found and identified.

According to Watkins, the event was designed in a fun way for students and teachers alike to learn more about China's culture and history while exploring both the old and new China.

The first student to correctly identify the name of the person behind the mystery face, acquire a code word and submit the information to Hastings District Council won themselves a two-week all-expenses paid-trip to China.

The lucky victor has been revealed to be Caitlin Thomas, a 14-year-old student at Iona College.

Li, the "mysterious face", will also attend a serious of exchange activities in Hastings in September.
