Yantai, a coastline city of East China's Shandong province, is attracting a lot of attention at the 15th China International Nuclear Industry Exhibition that opened at the National Convention Center in Beijing on March 28.
Held by the Chinese Nuclear Society and China Nuclear Energy Industry Corp, the biennial exhibition will last four days and features the theme of innovation and cooperation. More than 200 institutes and companies from about 50 nations and regions are taking part.
The Yantai booth highlights its regional advantages and rich high-tech resources in developing the nuclear industry by a variety of methods including models, computer displays, image boards and videos.
Yantai, located in northern Shangdong province, is an important city in the Bohai Economic Circle and has been designated as a Shandong peninsula independent innovation demonstration zone. It has built Haiyang provincial nuclear industry park and Laishan provincial nuclear industry park.
In 2016, the Yantai government established a national-level research and development center for nuclear power, the first of its kind in China.
It focused on the utilization of nuclear power, radiation protection, energy storage, nuclear waste treatment, thermal management, and fast reactors.
A national-level nuclear industry innovation platform was set to be built in 2017 relying on the nuclear center, which is the only one in China integrating new industrialization and nuclear technology.
The city is also home to the under-construction nuclear platform project Wanhua ACP100S which can provide clean power, heating and gas for offshore drilling platforms and coastal cities.
To date, the Yantai nuclear center has introduced 41 excellent nuclear experts and numerous research institutes from Shanghai, Shenzhen and Guangzhou.
