A square with the Disney shop, in the Lujiazui area of Shanghai's Pudong New District, now has the first ever Music Bell Tower in the world, put up by the Walt Disney Co in the US, ready for the Lantern Festival, which falls on Feb 22 this year.
Lujiazui, the city's financial center, now has another landmark, this one with a Disney-themed bell tower, 18 meters tall, with many Disney cartoon character designs. The top of the tower has a golden globe that spins, with a pirate vessel carrying Peter Pan and related characters from Pan: Every Legend Has A Beginning.
The clock's hands are those of the beloved Mickey Mouse figure and the tower puts on a musical show every hour on the hour and half-hour with characters from Pixar, Marvel Comics, and Star Wars coming out to dance for visitors. And, every day at 10:00 pm when the Disney shop close, the tower puts on a 7-minute music show, Kiss Goodnight.
At the base of the tower there are four bronze sculptures – Minnie, Donald Duck, Goofy, and Pluto – to greet visitors and for photo shoots, so people who come here can enjoy a fairy tale music concert for free.
