Shanghai-based Hurun Research Institute has released this year’s Hurun Rich List, which included 13 entrepreneurs from North China’s Shanxi province.
The list has 1,877 entrepreneurs with same cut-off of 2 billion yuan ($310 million) as last year.
The owners of Shanxi Baiyuan Trousers became the richest people in Shanxi, with total wealth of 7 billion yuan, ranking 487th place in this year’s Hurun Rich List.
The industry structure of Shanxi businesspeople on the list has changed this year. Clothes and logistics have replaced steel and coal as the main sources of wealth. Five of the listed wealthy are based in Taiyuan, three in Changzhi, two in Jinzhong, and one each in Jincheng, Yucheng and Lvliang.
This is Hurun’s 17th list. China has 242 more billionaires this year, bringing the total to 596, compared to 537 billionaires in the US. It’s the first time that China’s figure exceeded that in US, according to the list.
Wang Jianlin, chairman of property giant Wanda Group, took back the number one position from Jack Ma of Alibaba Group.
