The total tourism revenue of Mount Wutai scenic area, a renowned Buddhist mountain in China's Shanxi province, exceeded 5 billion yuan ($760 million) in 2015, up 10.2 percent year-on-year, according to local administrative authority.
The area received more than 4.7 million Chinese and foreign tourists, an increase of 8.7 percent compared with the number of 2014.
Observers say that the good momentum has been attributed to local authority's hard work on environment renovation and management last year.
To better improve the environment, the authority carried out a plan on environment renovation. The plan aimed to create better traffic order, set up unified signs, have cleaner environment, standardize local tourism market, protect the tourist resources better, and give the tourists better services.
The authority also urged associated officials to implement the renovation project as required. Anyone who violated the renovation rules are most likely to be punished.
