Ye's Hongye qipao making technique

(chinadaily.com.cn)

Ye's Hongye qipao making technique is a Shandong provincial intangible cultural heritage item. It is one of the traditional Chinese costume making techniques spread in the Tai'an area and has a history of more than 100 years.

A qipao is a traditional Chinese one-piece dress that originated from gowns worn by women in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). Ye's Hongye qipao integrates modern popular garment elements, while also maintaining traditional Chinese styles including tight collars, side vents, and pankou knots. It is completely made through manual skills, including embroidery, winding, tie-dye and inset.

Niu Yuye, an inheritor of the Hongye qipao making technique, has been engaged in qipao making for nearly 30 years. She has introduced hand-painted style qipaos and offers high-end private customization services. Her works have been exported to western countries.
