Six enterprises within the Kunming National Hi-Tech Industries Development Zone were selected to be the “Yunnan’s leading science and technology enterprises” by the provincial technology ministry.

The six nominees are Yunnan Baiyao Group, Kunming Pharmaceutical Co, Institute of Medical Biology, Yunnan Copper Industry Group, Sino-platinum Metals Co and Kunming Cable Group. Each of them received a supporting fund at a value of 2 million yuan ($320,000) for their future R&D.

Yunnan altogether selected 28 local enterprises in such industries as new materials, environmental protection, biology, high-end equipment manufacturing, new energy resources, photoelectron, and new energy automobiles.

The selection aims at boosting the emerging industries in Yunnan and enhancing the independent innovation in local enterprises.

The enterprises were selected because they met the following requirements: The annual net profit should exceed 30 million yuan and the average annual sales volume in the past three years should be between 200 million yuan and 5 billion yuan.

In addition, each enterprise should have at least two proprietary intellectual property rights and spend more than 3 percent of their revenues on R&D.
