Divorcee appeals settlement ruling
A man in Chengdu has filed an appeal against a court's decision to award him only 150,000 yuan ($21,800) in a divorce settlement. The man, surnamed Zhang, had sued for divorce on the grounds that his wife, surnamed Hu, refused to contribute to his medical bills after he was diagnosed with cancer. Zhang claimed to have given Hu 780,000 yuan during the seven years they had been together, but she claimed to only have 300 yuan in her bank account. Hu was awarded the marital home, an apartment valued at 340,000 yuan, in the settlement.

Man caught with fake license
A man in Nanjing was placed in detention for 15 days on March 22 after traffic police discovered he was driving on a fake license. When stopped, the driver, surnamed Chen, presented a document that contained numerous typographical errors. He admitted to purchasing the fake after his real license was revoked for drunken driving in 2013. Chen is now not allowed to apply for another driver's license for five years.

Driver knocks officer onto hood
A man in Xunyang was detained on March 16 after failing to stop at two police checkpoints and almost running over an officer. The 24-year-old unlicensed driver, surnamed Wu, allegedly accelerated toward five officers at the first checkpoint he came to, before knocking another officer onto the hood of his car upon reaching the second checkpoint. He was detained for preventing a public servant from performing an official duty.

Riders pay elderly crash victim
An 84-year-old man in Changtai county who was knocked down by a motorcycle before being run over by a scooter and a bicycle has received 53,000 yuan ($7,700) compensation. The incident occurred on Dec 31 as the man, surnamed Ye, attempted to cross a poorly lit road. All the riders that hit Ye fled the scene, but were tracked down by police 22 days later. After mediation, the motorcyclist agreed to pay 30,000 yuan while the scooter and bike riders paid 20,000 yuan and 3,000 yuan, respectively.
