Comment on "China can learn from Japan's past" (China Daily website, March 29)
I hear a lot of theories about the environment in China. People are generally positive, I believe, the vast majority of China's population would target the environment as one of the key issues.
Here comes the problem. If you ask how an individual will contribute to the goal, I guess, most of the people would propose the government should do their best. People don’t think saving the environment is the action of a single person, because they think there is no way to do it personally. Thus, there is no efficient recycling system for household waste. People take littering as national culture, cheap plastic bags are used during daily shopping. Water is so cheap that no one cares about saving. No separation waste system as well.
So people have no motivation, no education, and suppressed enthusiasm from the beginning. Chinese people have a lot of to learn and better start with global education and civilized citizen activities.
