Comment on “Da Vinci admits some products mislabeled” (China Daily, July 23)

The culture of rich Chinese worshiping western goods, including luxury goods, is a slap on the Chinese face. These people are elevating the false value of western goods and killing the image of Chinese-made products. These people are telling the world that they have no faith in Chinese-made products and in doing so are rubbishing goods from their own country.

I would like to suggest that the Chinese Consumer Association start up a team to evaluate Western goods in order to give consumers more information when purchasing highly priced western luxury goods. Most western luxury goods makers don’t make their products. I know because I work in the west. Why do you think such luxurious goods don’t sell well in their own western countries? One of the main reasons is there are less ostentatious people there. Chinese ostentation is a joke in the west and good news to luxury goods con men.

Wake up China! don’t promote ostentation. Instead, write articles on the sick behaviors of these people. I hope news media will work with the Chinese Consumer Association to evaluate imported goods and Chinese-made products and have the unbiased findings published. That will help consumers to make sound decisions in their purchases. It will create a fairer comparison on value for money.
