In fact, China should remember its relatively recent history. During the‘60s and early‘70s, the nation-wide slogan that was popularized all over the developing world was "Friendship first, competition second." It endeared China to the Third World and was the spirit behind the Afro-Asian Games, as well as the Afro-Asian Latin-American Games.
However, to some people during the last 30 years, games are good only when certain white nations are around. China began to change its values from "friendship first" to Vince Lombardi's credo: "Winning is not everything: it's the only thing. "
