Japan-US accusations over air defense zone groundless

China’s fast rise is not a moral burden or an obstacle hindering the country’s righteous actions, even if some countries sensationalize it as a threat to the world. China will stick to its peaceful development path, confident in its moral appeal and national image, says an article of the People’s Daily. Excerpt:

To maintain the aviation order in the sea, the Chinese government set up the East China Sea Air Defense Identification Zone according to international laws and conventional practices.

Yet, the establishment of the zone incurred groundless, if not habitual, blames from Japan and the United States, who accused China of trying to change the status quo unilaterally and stimulating regional tensions.

But China was ready for the feedback because the country’s fast rise seems to make countries uncomfortable and invite overreaction from them.

Like it or not, China will play a more important role in shaping security in the Asia-Pacific.

The US and Japan are blind to the definition of an air defense identification area and take double standards toward their own practices and identification areas.

The noise around the East China Sea Air Defense Identification Zone exposed the US and Japan’s duplicity in handling issues with China.

China has no obligation to explain its standard procedures, which are wholly legal, to a country that refuses to recognize its history or a country hung up on containing its fast-rising competitor and partner in fear of losing its hegemonic position.
