The case of a congenital culprit

(China Daily) Updated: 2014-05-08 07:11

Hu Bin was severely criticized by the public and served three years in prison for causing the death of a pedestrian while speeding in 2009. Recently, he was involved in another car accident in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, which shows that the prison term failed to teach him the proper lesson, says an article on gmw.cn. Excerpts:

The massive public criticism and three years of imprisonment for knocking down a pedestrian should have taught Hu, or, for that matter anyone else, a vital lesson: to be careful while driving. But Hu has not changed one bit. In fact, media reports on the latest accident involving him say that he has violated traffic rules several times after being released from prison. The reports also say that his car overturned because he was speeding.

Hu's blatant disregard for traffic rules and public life even after causing the death of an innocent pedestrian shows that he has not learned any lesson. Perhaps his three years prison term was not enough to change his unruly nature. Perhaps he needs a more severe punishment to realize that human life is supreme. Perhaps his family is to blame for not educating him to respect human values and follow social rules.

The car that overturned is even costlier than the one he was driving when he knocked down the pedestrian in 2009. And although there is no direct connection between the two cases, Hu's actions remind one of Li Tianyi, the son of famous PLA singers, who refused to change despite being punished. Do the children of the rich and famous consider this world to be their playground?

The similarity between the cases of Hu and Li reflects serious lack of family education. Parents should realize that without effective guidance, their children could turn into social misfits.
