Nobody can stand against the law

(China Daily) Updated: 2014-07-30 07:53

Hidden rules are different; some are severe violations of the Constitution and Party discipline, while some are slightly lighter; we can see social progress in the elimination of those that are overdue. People say there used to be a hidden rule that members of the Political Bureau Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China Central Committee are immune to legal and disciplinary penalties, but the investigation of Zhou has shown the alleged hidden rule doesn't actually exist.

No tiger can escape the cage for long should he or she dare to break the discipline. The various cases over the passing years are best testimony to the fact that no matter how high a position a corrupt official holds, he or she will have to pay the penalty once their illegal and anti-disciplinary deeds are discovered. By honoring the vow to both swat flies and hunt tigers, the central leadership has shown the public its firm determination to root out corruption and defend the law. That an official as senior as Zhou Yongkang is being investigated sends a warning to all corrupt officials that their luck will eventually run out and they will be brought to justice. All Party members and officials should heed the lesson never to abuse the power they hold in their hands. The anti-graft campaign will continue; the investigation of Zhou is only one step of a phase.

The investigation of Zhou is evidence that the central leadership follows the rule of law and will well regulate the Party. The case has shown the whole nation the central leadership's firm determination to fight graft, and told the world that China will render efforts to building a clean government, which is necessary for China to continue on the path of reform and opening-up.
