Community strikes a chord

The cooperative and win-win perspective demonstrated by Asian countries at the just-concluded 2015 Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference heralds a brighter future for Asia.

There is a consensus that a fully prosperous and interdependent Asia can benefit all. As a key member of the Asian community, China is committed to achieving this goal, as shown by its efforts to advance the Silk Road Economic Belt, the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road and its efforts to push for the establishment of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and the Silk Road Fund.

These diplomatic ideas aimed at promoting cooperation and win-win results have been put forward by China but will benefit Asia and even the whole world. It is widely believed by people in other parts of the world that the China-initiated AIIB will channel more funds to infrastructure construction in Asia, which will help improve people's living conditions. This explains why many Asian and European countries have responded positively to China's initiative.

Compared with its high dependence on Europe and the United States for economic growth in the past, Asia's economic growth today is more intrinsically driven, given that trade among its regional members is already much bigger than its trade with the US and Europe combined. Deepening Asian integration and developing more shared interests offer more motivation for Asian economies to pursue greater cooperation.

Cooperation for win-win results not only applies to Asia's economy, but also to political, security and cultural areas. Encouragingly, the awareness of Asia as a "community of common destiny", as advocated by China, is resonating with an increasing number of Asian countries.

The above is an abridgement of a People's Daily article published on March 30.
