Ancient coming-of-age ritual revived

Performers don in traditional costumes to enact the coming-of-age ritual at Zhou Gong Temple, or the Temple of Duke Zhou, in Luoyang city, central China's Henan province, on Thursday, June 3, 2010. Fearing rebellion forces might revolt against the crown of his young and inexperienced nephew during the ancient Zhou Dynasty (believed to be 1045 BC - 256 BC), Duke Zhou became the regent and supervised government affairs for several years. The unassuming duke was renowned for his recognition of talents and efficient leadership. Hailed as China's first politician saint, he was later deemed by Confucians as the perfect model of a politician. He established the dynasty's eastern capital at Luoyang city. Thursday's coming-of-age ritual in the ancient city will be made available to the public for free. Parents can register their children at the temple for their own coming-of-age ritual.
