School helps 'problem students' back to right

A student reads a book in the window of a classroom in a "special education" school in the suburban area of Xiuwen county, Guiyang city, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, March 27, 2012. The school, founded by Yang Hongchang and some other teachers seven years ago, particularly receives "problem students" as their main aim. Most of these students are sent by their parents and 70 percent of them are from rural families. They are society's dropouts after failing to enter high school or university and some of them even have criminal records. Those with a misconduct problem occupy 35 percent of all the enrolled students and half of them have a sense of inferiority. In the school, Yang and his colleagues spend time teaching these students and living among them. The school has expanded to have more than 400 students from its original fewer than 100. Over the past seven years, they have successfully converted more than 600 problem students into upright ones. [Photo/CFP]
