China's post-festival travel hits record peak

Passengers line up before boarding a train at the railway station in Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province, on Monday. China railways utilized extra trains to manage a record number of passengers on Monday, the last day of the three-day Dragon Boat Festival. Two-hundred and ninety temporary trains were added as the number of trips made by railway passengers nationwide was estimated at 8.1 million, said the China Railway Corporation. On Sunday, 7.23 million trips were made on 4,725 trains in China, up 12.9 percent from last year, as people visited tourist attractions or went to their hometowns. The Dragon Boat Festival, also called Duanwu, is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, June 2 this year.[Photo/IC]
