The first Shanghai Lujiazui Riverside International Beer Festival (Sept 12-21) is getting off to a roaring start on Sept 12, on North Bin Jiang Riverside Square, with plenty to offer -- food, beer, music, partying, and more. With that in mind, we are providing some useful tips on how to make the best of the festival.

Guide to Lujiazui's International Beer Festival

1. Buy your tickets in advance

There are two types of ticket available: the VIP, at 358 yuan, for use after 6:30 pm, and the ordinary, at 50 yuan. Anyone with a VIP ticket can help themselves to as many delicacies and beer as they want at the German beer pavilion, while ordinary ticket holders can still get a glass of beer, but no entry into the pavilion.

Tickets can be purchased on Damai.cn, or at the site, which is open until 9:00 pm every day. However, there are no more than 800 VIP tickets per day, so the suggestion is that you buy your ticket in advance.

2. Shopping reasonably

Anyone wanting to get a full view of the festival would be better off buying a VIP ticket since it covers a tour of the beer pavilion and its German style. There are also traditional dishes from 6:30 pm on and a Bavarian band, which will be playing classical English and German songs, as well as the Chinese hit “Small Apple”.

But, anyone just wanting to enjoy a good view and some music, will find the ordinary ticket suitable. They can walk along the 400-meter Bin Jiang Ave and get a taste of good beer and gourmet snacks from several countries.

3. Routes

In getting to the festival, both car and subway are convenient. You can take the Shanghai subway’s Line 2, get off at the Lujiazui stop, and take the No.1 exit. A 10-minute walk will get you to Bin Jiang Square. Driving can be even easier. Just type in Dongyuan Rd Bin Jiang Ave on the online map, and it will guide you right there.

4. Parking

While parking might be a global headache, this festival makes it easy, with plenty of parking spaces, including along Bin Jiang Ave (which is one-way), and Dongyuan Rd (two-way), with a charge of 10 yuan/hr, and 40 yuan max. There is also an underground parking at North Bin Jiang waterside terrace, after 5:30 pm.

In addition, drivers can show their driver’s license and tickets to get a driving service voucher at the entrance.
