The ministries of finance and civil affairs have allocated 120 million yuan (19.5 million U.S. dollars) as relief funds for southwest China's Chongqing Municipality as it suffers under rain-triggered floods and landslides.
The funds will be used for the urgent relocation of people affected by the disaster, basic supplies, reconstruction of damaged houses and compensation for families of the deceased, according to a statement released on Thursday by the Ministry of Civil Affairs.
Heavy rain has been battering Chongqing since Aug. 31. Ministry figures released on Sept. 2 show that 11 people have been killed amid the downpour.
Prior to the funds, the Ministry of Civil Affairs sent special teams to the region to review damages and guide relief. Materials including tents, cotton quilts, sleeping bags, folding beds and chairs were also provided.
UK trade commissioner for China praised Chongqing as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
