Emerging industries boost Siming's high-quality development

Siming district in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province, has made great strides in the development of science and technology innovation industries in recent years.

Official statistics show that the district's GDP reached 250.39 billion yuan ($36.2 billion) in 2022, and its fiscal revenue exceeded 41 billion yuan, both of which have topped Fujian for seven consecutive years. Industries like financial services, trade logistics, software and information, as well as tourism and meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions (MICE) have witnessed rapid growth in recent years, each with an industrial scale exceeding 100 billion yuan.

The development of science and technology innovation industries in Siming were particularly eye-catching.

The software and information services industry, which is one of Siming's strongest and leading industries, has played an important role in supporting and leading the district’s social and economic development. In 2022, the operation revenue of Siming's software and information service industries above designated size exceeded 38 billion yuan, accounting for nearly two thirds of Xiamen's total.

Currently, Siming is home to a group of software businesses, including information security enterprise Meiya Pico, facial recognition company Meitu, and Xiamen Weite Technology. Many domestic industry leaders have set up business in Siming to advance the in-depth promotion of its advanced manufacturing industry.

The district's continuous efforts to optimize its business environment have contributed to the burgeoning science and technology innovation industries.

In May last year, Siming released a slew of supportive measures to boost the high-quality development of its software and information services industry, which focused on attracting high-level talents, as well a promoting research and development and innovation.

Siming has designated businesses "city partners". The signings show companies' confidence in Siming's sound business environment, local officials said.
