The ongoing African Cup of Nations has been marred by Egypt's stadium violence which has claimed 74 people's lives so far. But as the families mourn their loss and officials try to make sense of tragedy, it is important not to forget the sporting triumph that has been achieved and enjoyed by numerous soccer fans in Africa.

For some turmoil-ravaged countries like Sudan and Libya, the tournament means much more than sports. It brings strength and hope and could help restore national pride and confidence.

"The Libyan people understand football - they love the game," said Libya's midfielder Walid al-Katroushihe. "It's a long time since the country had something to smile and be happy about and that's up to us now."

Here we take a look at the brighter moments of the tournament untouched by politics.
