ROME, July 19 - French long jumper Salim Sdiri, who was hit by a javelin at last week's Golden League meeting in Rome, was described as being in a stable condition.

"Except for a light fever, the athlete does not show any other problems," read a statement released by Rome's Gemelli hospital on Thursday.

Sdiri was injured on Friday after Finland's Tero Pitkamaki slipped at the end of his run-up and misfired his javelin into the long jump warm-up area at Rome's Olympic Stadium.

The Frenchman was struck in the torso and was rushed to hospital. He was discharged on Saturday but readmitted on Sunday when a blood clot formed on his right side.

The statement by Gemelli hospital added that a scan had revealed "a slight reduction in the blood clot" and a "stable hepatic and renal situation".
