Bolt, 22, lost control of the high-powered vehicle and plowed into a ditch on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

He injured his left foot as he stepped out of the car and was treated, along with his brother and a female companion, for minor injuries at a nearby hospital.

Bolt, who won the men's 100- and 200-meter competitions with record times at the Beijing Olympic Games in August, was released after treatment at the Spanish Town Hospital, his manager Norman Peart said in a statement.

"We are keeping a close watch on Usain and will update the public as is necessary," he said.
