In a touching moment, a police officer in Hunan province guarded an injured dog in heavy traffic and protected it from getting hit again, reported Xiaoxiang Morning News on Tuesday.

A picture taken by Changsha resident Tang shows a white dog lying in the middle of a road while a police officer guards it. Tang said the dog was hit by a car when crossing the road during the morning rush hour on Monday.

Traffic police officer He Xingliang checked on the dog and found it was still alive. To keep it from getting hurt again, he stood besides the dog and directed the traffic flow around the animal. Then he tried to contact an animal protection organization for help.

However, the dog didn't make it as it took too long to receive medical attention.
