Valery Afanassiev was born in Moscow in 1946 and studied the piano at the conservatory with the famous teachers Emil Gilels and Yakov Zak. His international career started, when he won the Reine Elisabeth piano competition in Brussels in 1970. His reputation as an artist is not exclusively based on his extraordinary merits as a pianist. His many interests cover a wide variety of being an active artist: He is a prolific author, who has by now published many novels, wrote plays based on Mussorgsky′s 'Pictures at an exhibition' and Schumann′s 'Kreisleriana' and wrote many of the liner notes to his CDs with music by Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann, Mussorgsky, Chopin and others.

Dance Drama Crested Ibises in Shanghai

Founded in Jun. 1979, Shanghai Dance Theatre (SDT) completed the enterprise restructuring of sate-owned art troupes in Nov. 2009. SDT is committed to creating Chinese national ballets, contemporary dance dramas, vocal music productions, instrument music productions, etc. Crested ibises, an international preserved rare bird species, known as the "bird of good fortune", is a gorgeous and precious creature symbolizing happiness and blessings. They used to be so innocent, gentle and graceful and lived with humans in the agrarian times as human's loyal and adorable companions. However, when accelerating the pace of modernization and urbanization in modern time, humans neglect the deterioration of the living environment of crested ibises. The natural habitat upon which the wild crested ibises are so dependent for their breeding, such as blue sky, clean water and tranquillity, has become so hostile that they are forced to die out gradually. Recently, the discovery of the last seven wild crested ibises in Yang County, Shaanxi province, made the endangered creature come into people's sight again. Today, with joint efforts from Chinese and Japanese scientists, crested ibises have received increasingly conscious protection and care from human society.

Paul Taylor Dance Company 2016 in Wuhan

In 2015, along with 17 of his classics and two premieres performed by the Paul Taylor Dance Company, Mr. Taylor presented two modern dances that represent the best of American Modern Dance in both the distant and recent past. Doris Humphrey's influential work from the 1930s, Passacaglia, was performed by the venerable Limon Dance Company. And Shen Wei Dance Arts performed Rite of Spring, Shen Wei brilliant take on the legendary Stravinsky score. Orchestra of St. Luke's, conducted by Mr. Taylor's longtime collaborator, Donald York. In 2016 the Taylor Company will perform a dance by Martha Graham for the first time-Diversion of Angels from 1948-and guest performers from Dayton Contemporary Dance Company will perform Donald McKayle's 1959 masterpiece, Rainbow' Round My Shoulder. In March 2016 at Lincoln Center, the first two works to emerge from Taylor Company Commissions will have their world premieres. These are Larry Keigwin's Rush Hour and Doug Elkins's The Weight of Smoke, both of which feature all 16 Taylor dancers.

US Presidential Election Results Watch
