Floods kill 98 in Southwest Nigeria
LAGOS - Floods in the southwest Nigerian city of Ibadan killed at least 98 people over the weekend, and bodies were still being recovered from the scene, the Nigeria Red Cross said on Monday.
Nigeria suffers from seasonal flash floods, which are sometimes lethal in its overcrowded slums, owing to poor drainage.
"More corpses were recovered from affected areas (today). 98 dead bodies have been recovered so far," a Nigeria Red Cross official said by telephone.
Around 2,000 people had been displaced by the floods in the city, which lies about 120km (75 miles) north of the commercial capital Lagos, the official added.??
