HOUSTON - A small plane crashed Sunday night at a local airport in the US state of Texas, killing one person and injuring another, local media reported.

Dozens of firefighters rushed to David Wayne Hooks Memorial Airport in Houston's north suburb of Spring after they received emergency call at around 7:15 pm local time on Sunday (GMT 0115 of Monday), local TV ABC13 reported.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the pilot of the single-engine Cessna 152 had been in the traffic pattern performing touch-and-go landings when engine problems were reported.

The report said the pilot was returning to the runway when the plane clipped one hangar, then crashed into another hangar.

One person in the plane died at the scene. Another was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition, officials said. Both victims have not yet been identified.

Harris County Sheriff's Office said it took a moment before emergency crew could safely approach the wreckage due to the large amount of fuel that spilled.
