DUSHANBE - Leaders of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on Friday voiced support for an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned reconciliation and reconstruction process.

Participants of the SCO's Dushanbe summit stressed that Afghanistan's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity should be respected.

They supported the implementation of an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned reconciliation and reconstruction process, so as to turn Afghanistan into a self-reliant and amicable nation.

The Sept. 11-12 summit brought together Chinese President Xi Jinping and his counterparts from other members of the SCO.

Founded in 2001, the SCO groups China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. It has Afghanistan, India, Iran, Mongolia and Pakistan as observers, and Belarus, Turkey and Sri Lanka as dialogue partners.

Tajikistan currently holds the SCO's rotating presidency.
