Chile-China Cultural Institute seek new ways for cultural exchanges

SANTIAGO - The Chile-China Cultural Institute is seeking new ways to promote cultural dialogue between the two countries, the institute's director Fernando Reyes Matta has told Xinhua.

The institute is seeking to bring Chinese bands to tour Chile and Latin America, to involve Chilean and Chinese film directors in joint productions, host modern dance shows and put on photo exhibitions in both countries, said Reyes Matta, a former Chilean ambassador to China.

The institute was set up by several famous figures, including Chile's former president Salvador Allende and Nobel Prize winner Pablo Neruda, in 1952.

It has succeeded in turning the Chinese Garden, located in the southern part of Santiago's O'Higgins Park, into a cultural center.

The setting up of the two Confucius Institutes in Chile, which has been selected as the location of the Regional Center of Confucius Institutes for Latin America, also provides unique space for cultural exchanges of both countries, Reyes Matta said.

"We will always be different, but cultural diversity is a chance to enrich, not just the people of China and Chile, but many other populations as well," he said.
