Works by Chinese artist on exhibition in Paris

By China Daily in Shanghai | chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2017-02-09 19:00

A collection of large bronze sculptures by Chinese artist Liu Yilin are being displayed at the Canopée des Halles in central Paris until Feb 25.

The exhibition, which features 12 animal-shaped sculptures that reflect the “Legend of Chinese Zodiac” theme, officially opened on Feb 2 with the display of a large red rooster sculpture at the square of the Louvre. The sculpture was later showcased at the opening ceremony of the exhibition at the city hall of the 1st arrondissement in Paris.

“I like these sculptures pretty much,” said Remy Aron, President of Paris Artists Association. “Only works by artists as influential as Picasso are qualified to be displayed in places like Canopée des Halles.”

JF Legaret, mayor of the 1st arrondissement, said that he knew he had to support Liu the moment he laid eyes on the Chinese artist’s works. Legaret said that the Canopée des Halles is constantly on the lookout for outstanding artists worldwide and Liu’s works are most worthy of the prestigious venue.

Liu said it was a great honor to have his works exhibited in France and that he owes his success to embracing an Oriental style of art.
