Starting on Monday, the series is being released by China's State Archives Administration (SAA) and currently on a promotional drive to raise awareness of China's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.

In September 1937, Japanese troops occupied the cities of Cangzhou and Baoding in north China's Hebei Province and went westward into neighboring Shanxi Province, mustering forces for an attack at Pingxingguan, a narrow pass guarded by Chinese troops.

The battle broke on Sept. 23 when Japanese troops engaged with the Chinese army at Pingxingguan.

Familiar with the local mountains, the Communist troops cut off the enemy's logistic line and killed more than 1,000 Japanese troops in an ambush.

The victory in Pingxingguan boosted the morale of Chinese people and consolidated the reputation of the Communist Party of China among them.

The video series is part of China's activities to mark Sept. 3, the "Victory Day" when the Japanese government officially surrendered in 1945.
