There were many popular homegrown documentaries presented in 2017 with remarkable success. Many young people have fallen in love with documentaries and want to recommend them to others.

This phenomenon was born from documentary creators' innovation in form and content. Documentaries nowadays are no longer "dull and long" but light-hearted, short and easier to be spread.

According to a research report released by China Netcasting Services Association, there is an increasing number of people choosing to watch documentaries on the internet. The documentary category ranked fifth among online video users in 2017, accounting for 30 percent and increasing three places compared to 2016.

Twenty Two [Photo/Mtime]

The whole documentary industry has been developing from an obscure and niche one to a highly sought-after one in China. For example, Twenty Two, a feature documentary on WWII, gained both high reputation and satisfactory box office. Herbal China and Post-00s also caught people's attention.

2018 is continuing the trend with many good documentaries, such as Every Treasure Tells a Story, Extreme Road and the Great Shokunin Season 3. Let's have a look at some of this year’s best so far.
