"I wish the other contractor would also speed up his work. We are longing to have the two roads completed," he says.

Kieni is the largest constituency in Nyeri County, yet it has the poorest infrastructure. There have been calls to upgrade the roads to boost agriculture in the area, which is the main economic activity in the region.

Currently foods such as potatoes, cabbage, carrots and onions have been going to waste in Kieni due to the poor roads.

Kanini Kega, the Kieni member of Parliament, says he will ensure that all the roads in the area are upgraded in order to make transportation of agricultural produce go faster.

"I have been pushing the government to have the roads developed and I'm happy that the projects kicked off last year," he says.
