The US-based Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), an independent nonprofit scientific and research organization, released its 2019 Top Safety Pick+ and Top Safety Pick awards for vehicle models on Dec 19.
To qualify for Top Safety Pick, a vehicle must earn good ratings in the driver-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests, as well as an acceptable or good rating in the passenger-side small overlap front test. It also must get an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention and an acceptable or good headlight rating, according to IIHS.
To qualify for Top Safety Pick+, in addition to meeting the above criteria, the vehicle must also receive good ratings in the passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests.
