Major film festival soon to be underway
The 28th Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival will kick off Tuesday evening in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province, according to a news conference held on Tuesday morning.
Expert evaluation determines recipients of the Golden Rooster Award, while the Hundred Flowers Award, another notable honor in the domestic film industry, is decided by audience vote.
Both awards are granted biennially during the Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival, a two-in-one event held alternately every year.
The Golden Rooster Award has attracted 277 films approved by the State Film Administration from May 16, 2017 to June 30, 2019, including 103 feature films, 82 small and medium-sized feature films, 25 children's films, 12 cartoon and puppet films, 7 science and education films, 20 opera films and 28 documentaries, said Zhang Hong, director of the festival's organizing committee.
The five-day festival will feature a wide range of films, including lots of new works, reflecting the general standard of Chinese films from the past two years, he added.
An artistic performance themed around films will be held at the opening ceremony.
According to Zhang, there will be a series of events during the festival, including exhibitions of domestic films, international films and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan films, as well as three film-themed academic forums.
