No casualties have been reported in a fire at a refinery plant in Fushun, Liaoning province, said a statement from Fushun emergency management bureau on Sunday.

The blaze was reported to firefighters at around 9:30 pm on Saturday at the No 3 Refinery Plant of PetroChina Fushun Petrochemical Company. Thirty-four fire trucks and 120 firefighters were deployed immediately to the site and the fire was extinguished at 9:58 pm.

According to preliminary analysis, the fire was caused by thunder. The statement said that severe lightening hit Fushun city on Saturday night and a lightning strike ignited the waste oil in a buffer pool at the plant.

No environmental pollution has been caused, added the statement. Lai He, Party chief of Fushun city, urged all chemical enterprises in the city to conduct safety inspections and prevent fire hazards.
