Millennial leader debuts with museum solo in Beijing
Audience members, after developing a better understanding of Jiang through his paintings and installations, also are invited to unwind on a real-grass lawn that dominates a whole room. The piece, Lie Down, derives from one of Jiang's performance artworks. On June 12, 2020, he posted on Weibo, inviting people to find him on an orange sheet at Beijing's Chaoyang Park and just lie down beside him.
Like Lie Down that engages the audience, Queen, a highlight of the exhibit, is also a performance artwork Jiang created, which invites the audience's participation. On each day throughout the exhibit, one of the 40 queens, including stars, influencers and common people, whom the curatorial team cast from around the world, meets audience members one on one in a room.
It, to some extent, is like moving online dating offline, many participants said.
