Guangzhou South Railway Station in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, is expected to handle 20.17 million passengers during the Spring Festival travel rush, with an average of 504,000 passengers per day, according to the railway operator.

The number of departing passengers is expected to be 10.2 million, and the peak is expected to occur on Jan 27, a day before Chinese New Year's Eve, with 369,000 passengers departing.

This year's 40-day Spring Festival travel rush, which began on Jan 14, is expected to break passenger volume records in China's railway sector.

Over the first three days of the travel rush, China Railway Guangzhou Group, the railway station's operator, transported 5.23 million passengers.

The number of passengers is increasing day by day, with more and more people embarking on their journey back home, according to the railway group.

To ensure a safe, orderly and warm journey for passengers during the travel rush, the station's Communist Youth League Committee has launched volunteer service activities in collaboration with the University Town Volunteer Association of Panyu district.

On average, 45 student volunteers are recruited daily to provide services such as information guidance, consultation and assistance and support for key passengers at key locations inside the station.

This station's youth league committee also recruited volunteers proficient in English and Cantonese to enhance the service level for foreign and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area passengers.

During this year's travel rush, as many as 1,575 volunteers will be recruited by the station, providing services to over 300 key passengers on average each day.
