BEIJING - China's entry-exit quarantine inspection authorities uncovered 1,857 batches of substandard imported food in 2011, China's quality watchdog said Monday.

Disqualified microorganism and additive levels were major problems for the products, which included drinks, biscuits and dairy products, said Li Yuanping, spokesman for the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ).

Meanwhile, 106 batches of imported cosmetics were found to be below standard, Li said.

These products were either sent back or destroyed by the local entry-exit quarantine inspection authorities and did not enter the Chinese market, Li said.

He said detailed information on the detected products were listed on the AQSIQ website (www.aqsiq.gov.cn).
