WUHAN - Disciplinary authorities in central Hubei Province have set up a work team to research an assets declaration program for government officials, local officials said Friday.

Trial assets declaration will be carried out in six cities of the province from May next year upon research results, sources with the disciplinary authorities said.

The Commission for Discipline Inspection and the Department of Supervision in Hubei have created a plan for the program, which has won approval from the country's top disciplinary and anti-corruption watchdogs,

Six cities in the province have been picked for the pilot program, according to the authorities.

By the end of next April, a detailed guideline for the program should be completed, the sources said.

China takes a positive attitude toward establishing a system for government officials to declare their personal assets as part of its efforts in fighting corruption, Wu Yuliang, deputy secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) of the Communist Party of China (CPC), said at a press conference in June.

According to the CPC Central Committee's anti-corruption guidelines for 2008-2012, the Party will accelerate research and evaluation on the system.
