BEIJING - Chinese Vice-President Xi Jinping met with visiting Crown Prince Philippe of Belgium in Beijing on Monday, urging joint efforts in boosting bilateral trade links and substantial cooperation.
"The foundations for the stable growth of China-Belgium relations are mutual respect, equality and the accommodation of each other's core interests," Xi said.
He spoke highly of the contribution of Prince Philippe and the Belgian Royal Family in cementing the China-Belgium friendship, adding that he believes Prince Philippe's current visit will further facilitate China-Belgium relations and, in particular, the two countries' trade links.
Prince Philippe's China visit comes as the two countries are celebrating the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties.
Tapping trade potential tops the agenda for the visit of Prince Philippe, who is accompanied by a 450-member business delegation.
Prince Philippe said he fully agreed with Xi's views on boosting bilateral cooperation. He vowed joint efforts with China to maintain high-level exchanges, deepen people's understanding, and expand exchanges in areas such as technology, education and culture.
Besides Beijing, Prince Philippe will also visit Tianjin, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Shanghai and Chongqing during his 10-day trip.
His delegation is expected to sign about 40 cooperation contracts with China.
