The Tianjin government has launched a 60-day inspection to ensure migrant workers get paid on time before the Spring Festival, local media reported.

The campaign was jointly launched by the municipal labor bureau and five other departments to assure migrant workers get duly paid. It targets construction sites, manufacturing plants, restaurants, labor-intensive companies and private enterprises, where large numbers of migrant workers are employed.

According to a document issued on Nov 26, companies that delay paying salaries will receive severe punishment. Those with more serious infringements may be forced to close, lower or cancel its rank and even forfeit its business license.

Meanwhile, long-term mechanisms will be created and promoted to protect the welfare of migrant workers, the document said.
