MACAO: President Hu Jintao met on Sunday with officials of the central government and mainland institutions stationed in Macao, urging them to further advance the practice of "one country, two systems" in the special administrative region.

"Macao has made outstanding achievements and accumulated valuable experience since its return to the motherland a decade ago," said Hu, also general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and chairman of the Central Military Commission.

The president arrived here on Saturday to attend the celebration gathering marking the 10th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland and the inauguration of the third-term government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).

To advance the "one country, two systems" practice in Macao and promote Macao's development to a new level is not only an important mission of the new term Macao SAR government but also a major task of the central government and mainland institutions stationed in Macao, said Hu.

Hu spoke highly of the work done by officials of the institutions, saying they had contributed much to the successful implementation of "one country, two systems" in Macao and to the prosperity and stability of Macao.

Hu said that he hoped the officials will keep in mind their mission and work hard to contribute to a more successful "one country, two systems" cause in Macao and to a better Macao.

On Sunday afternoon, a ceremony was held here to mark the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Commissioner's Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Macao SAR.

Liu Yandong, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and State councilor, who accompanied Hu to Macao, attended the ceremony and spoke highly of the office's work over the past decade.
