A city hall prepares to launch a yearly series of concerts, mixing tradition with modernity. Zhang Kun reports in Shanghai.

From Peking Opera music and recomposed works of Frederic Chopin to cello performances accompanied by ballet, the Sennheiser Shanghai Concert Hall will explore many areas of music through a series of concerts in March, according to a recent announcement by the venue management.

The program, Music Infinity, under which the series of crossover concerts will be held every year, will be launched on Friday.

"Music has infinite possibilities, and the series is aimed at pushing new boundaries and tapping the imagination of musicians," says An Dong, the concert hall's artistic director.

The opening concert is produced by Peking Opera artist Wang Peiyu.

Wang is a one of the few female Peking Opera singers who do elderly male roles and enjoy immense popularity among fans. She has been creating concerts together with fellow musicians, such as Lin Yuan, a composer, and Zhou Yi, a string instrumentalist.
