Sun Zhijun adapted Chinese writer Lao She (Shu Qingchun)'s The Rickshaw Boy (《駱駝祥子》) into comic strips three times. His two comic strip adaptations of Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels, published from the 1950s to 1960s, were also widely popular.

Sun, who was born in 1907, created three versions of The Rickshaw Boy, among which the first one, with 59 strips, serialized in The Dawn (《平明日?qǐng)?bào)》) beginning in October 1948.

In 1995, Sun's first creations for the novel, 59 illustrations, were found.
