World Cup country profile: Ivory Coast
Ivory Coast boast some outstanding individual talents, but have yet to gel convincingly on the world stage and Brazil 2014 will offer some of their so-called “Golden Generation”, a last shot at World Cup glory. The Elephants will be appearing in their third consecutive finals, but have yet to reach the knock out stages thanks in part to some tough group draws in previous years. This time round they should stand a better chance of progressing, having been paired with Columbia, Greece and Japan in Group C. French coach Sabri Lamouchi is tasked with getting the best out of a team containing a host of well-known names including Didier Drogba, Yaya Toure. What a goal that is, Yaya Toure... while Lille forward Salomon Kalou was top scorer from qualifying with five.
