Song Dynasty guqin makes its debut

Two guqin - a seven-stringed Chinese musical instrument - made by an imperial family of the Song Dynasty (960-1279), will reveal their sounds for the first time in Beijing.

As part of the 2012 Open the Door to Arts Summer Art Festival, a guqin performance will be presented by musicians Li Fengyun and Wang Jianxin.

One of the guqin is named Moon Over the Plum Blossom, from a poem by Lin Pu, a Song Dynasty poet known for his affection for plum blossoms.

The other guqin got its name - South Wind - from its maker, to express his good wishes to the people.

The concert also features xiao, a Chinese vertical end-blown flute.

7:30 pm, Aug 1. Forbidden City Concert Hall, inside Zhongshan Park, west of Tian'anmen Square, Beijing. 010-6559-8285, 010-6559-8306.
